How to Pack when Moving

Moving can be a stressful procedure. There’s a lot to get done, from packing to cleaning to getting all your belongings to its new home. However, this process doesn’t have to be as tedious as it is often made out to be. Preparation is key to a successful move. And if you prepare well, you will, without a doubt, eliminate the stress you would otherwise have to endure.

Get things in order. There are certain tools that you will need in order to get your packing done. These include:

  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Newspaper
  • Bubble wrap
  • Boxes
  • Labels
  • A marker
  • Motivation

Accept the fact that there is a lot of work to be done. By doing so, you will have covered the first step required to having a successful move. If you start early, there is no doubt that you will be able to do things more orderly as well as acquire less stress when putting things together.

But what do you pack and where and how do you pack it?

First of all, don’t pack the things that you don’t use and will never use. Sort through all the junk that you have accumulated and get rid of them or if they can be of use to someone else, give them away. There is no point in moving these things to your new home. The only thing that they will do is unnecessarily take up space in your new home, and provide clutter that you don’t want.

The next thing that you will need to do is to get organized. Sort your belongings based on the rooms in the house where they belong. This is also helpful for unpacking as you will be able to have your movers place the things in their appropriate rooms and avoid having to do the heavy lifting yourself.

Label your boxes so that you know what each and every box contains. This will help you to know what you have already packed and avoid you from having to worry about losing or misplacing something important.

Number your boxes in order to keep track of how many pieces you have. Don’t have everything go out the door with no idea of how many pieces there were to begin with. This is especially important when you have got quite a few people helping you with the transportation of your property.

Put all your valuables in one place. Things like passports and jewellery that you cannot afford to lose should be packaged securely and labelled well.

If there is space in a box, then fill it. This not only helps to reduce the number of boxes that you will have to transport but it also prevents valuables from moving around and getting damaged. For things that is made of glass, and can easily be broken, considering using bubble wrap to secure and protect them. Once they’re all fit in tightly, secure the box well with tape, ensuring that there is no way that box can come undone and its contents can go crashing to the ground.

Televisions and other fragile pieces of furniture need to be wrapped in padding if you do not have the original boxes they came in. To be extra safe, contact your Parramatta Removalist and ask for some wooden crates in order to better support and protect these items.
